Little Artists Workshop β€” Hands-On Art with a Pottery Twist

What sets Little Artists Workshop apart from every other art class in Colombo? Pottery. This is the only kid-focused studio we’ve found that offers genuine clay work alongside traditional painting and craft.

Class Details

  • Ages: 4-12 years
  • Style: Painting, pottery, collage, mixed media, and 3D craft
  • Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (3pm-5pm)
  • Cost: LKR 3,500/month (8 sessions)
  • Materials: All clay, paint, and craft supplies included
  • Class size: 6-8 students

What Makes It Special

The pottery programme is genuinely engaging for children:

  • Pinch pots and coil building for beginners
  • Simple wheel work for older children
  • Glazing and firing (pieces are kiln-fired and returned after 2 weeks)
  • Children get to take home functional pottery β€” bowls, cups, small vases

Beyond pottery, the studio offers painting (watercolour and acrylic), collage, paper craft, and seasonal projects.

Our Experience

Our 9-year-old spent a term here and the pottery was the hands-down highlight. There’s something deeply satisfying about a child creating a functional bowl from raw clay. The instructor was patient and skilled, guiding without taking over.

The painting sessions were solid too, though not as distinctive as what Kala Pola offers. The real draw here is the combination of 2D and 3D creativity.

Tips

  1. Prepare for messy clothes β€” clay and paint are involved
  2. Tuesday classes are usually smaller than Thursday
  3. Pottery pieces take 2 weeks to fire and glaze β€” manage expectations
  4. The studio is in a residential area β€” follow their directions carefully

Our Verdict

4.2 out of 5 β€” the pottery element makes Little Artists Workshop uniquely valuable. If your child loves working with their hands and creating tangible objects, this is the best option in Colombo.
