Sri Lanka Planetarium

Located in the leafy university district of Colombo 7, the Sri Lanka Planetarium is hard to missβ€”it’s housed in a striking building shaped like a lotus flower.

A Journey to Space

The planetarium offers a classic domed theater experience. Visitors recline in their seats while the night sky, planets, and galaxies are projected overhead. It’s an excellent, peaceful way to introduce school-aged children to astronomy.

Planning Your Visit

Crucially, check the schedule before you go. Shows are run in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, but English shows are generally less frequent. It is incredibly affordable, making it a great budget-friendly excursion. The building is air-conditioned, providing a nice respite from the midday heat.

Our Verdict

4.0 out of 5 β€” While it lacks the high-tech interactivity of modern science museums, the planetarium remains a charming, deeply educational experience and an architectural landmark of Colombo.
