Port City Colombo Beach

Rising from the sea, Port City Colombo is a massive land reclamation project that has introduced a vibrant, brand-new recreation zone to the heart of the city. The primary draw for families is the artificial beach and the associated activity hub, which provide modern thrills in a carefully maintained environment.

While it is still under development, the opened sections already serve as a popular urban escape, featuring paved promenades and sections of golden sand facing the Indian Ocean.

What Kids Love Most

  • The Activities: This isn’t just a place to sit. Older kids and teens will go wild for the ATV track, while families can rent pedal boats or partake in light water sports.
  • The Open Promenade: The smooth, wide paths are perfect for riding scooters or rollerblading, similar to outdoor spaces at large malls, but right next to the sea!
  • The Vibe: With music playing and a festival-like atmosphere in the evenings, it’s an energetic place to explore.

Parent Tips

There is almost zero natural shade at Port City, so avoid visiting during the midday sun. The late afternoon (around 4:30 PM onwards) is ideal, leading up to what is arguably the best sunset view in Colombo. Keep an eye on the little ones, as the beach borders open water.

Since food options on the sand can be somewhat limited and pricey, many families prefer to finish their playtime here and then head across the road to One Galle Face Mall for dinner and a cooler, air-conditioned environment.

πŸ‘Ž Could Be Better
