Located in the trendy Park Street Mews complex, Sugar Bistro is one of Colombo’s most popular brunch and dessert destinations. Their cakes alone are worth the trip — and yes, you can absolutely bring your kids.
The Food
Sugar Bistro excels at western-style brunch and desserts:
- Breakfast classics: Eggs Benedict, French toast, pancakes, full English
- Sandwiches and wraps: Club sandwich, chicken wrap, BLT
- Pasta: Several options including a simple child-friendly aglio olio
- Desserts: This is where Sugar shines — their cake counter is legendary. Red velvet, chocolate ganache, cheesecakes, macarons, and seasonal specials
For kids, the pancakes, pasta, and sandwiches are reliable options. And of course, every child leaves with a slice of cake.
Family-Friendly?
Sugar Bistro isn’t designed specifically for families, but it works well enough:
- High chairs are available (2-3 in the restaurant)
- Staff are patient with children
- The atmosphere is lively enough that some kid noise isn’t out of place
- Food comes out quickly — important with hungry kids
The main limitation is space — the interior tables are fairly close together, so navigating with a stroller can be tricky. If weather permits, the outdoor seating in the Park Street Mews courtyard is better for families.

Sugar Bistro earns 4.2 out of 5 for families. The food quality is excellent, especially the brunch menu and desserts. It’s not a “kids’ restaurant” by any means, but it’s a place where parents can enjoy genuinely good food in a vibrant atmosphere while keeping kids satisfied. Just book ahead for weekend brunch.
