The Lagoon — Fine Dining That Doesn’t Ban Children
The Lagoon at Cinnamon Grand is one of Colombo’s most celebrated seafood restaurants, known for its Beira Lake views and live seafood display. While it’s not a typical “family restaurant,” we’ve found it surprisingly accommodating for parents with older children (6+).
Dining with Kids Here
Let’s be clear: The Lagoon is a fine dining experience. It works best with children who are old enough to sit through a meal, appreciate good food, and enjoy a calm environment. If you have a toddler who likes to run laps around tables, save this one for a parents-only date night.
That said, for families with older kids (especially those who enjoy seafood), it’s a wonderful experience:
- The live seafood tank where you can pick your lobster, crab, or fish is genuinely fascinating for children
- Staff are warm and will explain the different catches
- The lakeside terrace is spacious and relaxing
- Portions are generous enough to share
What to Order with Kids
- Grilled fish — simple, delicious, and kid-friendly
- Garlic prawns — always a hit with kids who eat seafood
- Plain rice and butter: Available on request for conservative eaters
- Ice cream desserts: The dessert menu is excellent
Price Expect
This is not a budget meal. Expect LKR 8,000-15,000 for a family of four. It’s a splurge, but the quality is genuine.

The Lagoon earns 4.0 out of 5 as a family option — not because it’s not excellent (it is), but because it’s only suitable for a specific age range and budget. For a special family dinner with kids aged 6+, it delivers a memorable experience. For younger children, there are better-suited options in Colombo.
